An Ami in Berlin

An Ami is an affectionate nickname for "American." "The Amis" are "The Americans." Since most of my German friends grew up on the "other" side of the wall, I am their "Ami" friend. I'm also mom to Timothy, David and Becca, and wife and friend to Tim.

I'm a movie star

I've decided I'm the living alterego of some famous movie star. I mean, think about it. Movie stars live under the stage lights. They hardly know who is out there. When the floodlights are on, you can barely make out if the audience is smiling. So are you out there, crowd? When I write this blog, my life, or a part of it, anyway, is on stage. Hello? Hello? Oh, yes. There's a lone clap over in the far right hand corner. Clap. Clap. ...Pause... Clap. Cough.

Must be silver fox. Or Jan, who is trying hard to boost my numbers of "visits to this page," a kind of ratings game. Ah, the trials of the not-so-rich and not-so-famous.

Actually, this afternoon was a movie star kind of day. "Can we meet at my house for Bible Study?" my friend Deb asked. On Thursdays, I stop my sorting and packing and a few of us have a front porch study. Last week was my front porch. Entertaining on one's front porch is to eliminate the need for clean-up (of course, when MY family was cleaning up for "mom's Bible study group," I didn't mention that little item. I like a tidy house as much as the next person, and hey, the bathroom is inside, and whoever heard of ladies meeting and not one needing to go to the bathroom?) And last week is when I discovered I have only one very tacky plastic pitcher for drinks here in Montrose. Which was being used. Never mind. I mixed my lemonade and put it in a pop bottle. It fits nicely with the missionary theme. BTW, I did find a nice pitcher and 6 matching glasses for 10 bucks at the side of the road 2 hours AFTER the study. Anyway, I am rabbit-tracking.

Deb told me, "Bring your suit, and we'll swim in our pond after Bible study. . ."

"On second thought," she added, "Bring your suit and we'll do Bible study IN the pond, on floaties." So I printed Galatians 5 out on paper for the ladies so our Bibles would stay dry, and we floated around Deb's pond, legs hooked on each other's floaties, looking out over the rolling mountains (not a house in sight but Deb's) discussing "the only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love," doing God's will when you would prefer staying where you are (duh, who could be struggling with that?), sending kids off to college, and how not to gossip. I did feel like a movie star, the water sparkling, laughing with friends, forgetting about all the boxes I am packing so we can leave in just 3 weeks and six days. Care to join us next time?

Ah....what a lovely day, and what a perfect place to do a Bible study!! I'm not sure we could manage to do that on Lake Michigan, however.
